Vacation - day 8

On Saturday, we took a group picture on the front steps and everyone got ready for the day.

Matthew and Claire took another dip in their pool.
It was a little too windy to take the babies down to the beach so, my Mom and I took the babies to some shops in Corolla while everyone else headed to the beach.
Jeremy, Ian, Jason and Amanda went boogie boarding. While they were out in the ocean, a whole bunch of dolphins started swimming right with them. Jeremy said he was really impressed by it and glad he had gone out there that morning. I packed up my stuff and the babies stuff while the Twins took a nap.Later in the afternoon, the wind died down a bit so we took Matthew and Claire back down to the water one last time.
I packed up the car and we left around 6PM and drove all night to get back home. The babies did really well in the car, they slept most of the way. Jeremy and I took turns driving, while my Mom entertained the babies in the back when they woke up.

Vacation - day 7

On Friday morning after breakfast, Andrew, My Mom, Jeremy and I took the babies to Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla. http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/ We all climbed to the top of the lighthouse, it was a long way up (especially when carrying the babies!) You could see for miles from the top.

After we checked out the gift shop, we headed out to get lunch. The babies took a siesta in their stroller while we ate some Mexican food for lunch.
When we got back, Claire and Jeremy took a nap while Matthew enjoyed some more time in the pool.

Once Matthew went down for a nap, my Mom and I walked down to the beach for a few minutes while everyone was napping.

Everyone went to Sooey’s BBQ for dinner. The babies went to bed a little early after their long day so we watched the Great Outdoors and then Amanda, Jeremy, Ian, Mom D, Mom S and I played Skatergorries.

Vacation - day 6

Jeremy, Andrew, Ian and Amanda got up early and headed out to take a fishing charter in Manteo. The babies slept in a little bit (they got up about 8AM instead of their usual 6:30AM). They had cereal and I got them cleaned up and had some breakfast. Jeremy’s Mom and Dad arrived late Wednesday night, so they got to play with the babies Thursday morning.

My Mom, Dad and I decided to drive down to Kitty Hawk with the babies to see the sand dunes and have lunch. We stopped at Applebees for lunch, the babies did really well in the restaurant. On the way back, we stopped at the Duck/Southern Shores Fire Department to buy some t-shirts for Jeremy and a onesie and some bibs for Matthew and Claire. Jeremy, Andrew, Ian and Amanda got back shortly after we did. They didn’t catch much on the fishing charter, Jeremy caught a flounder which bit Andrew on the finger. I guess he opened the cooler to check it out and got a little too close.

We set up the Twins’ kiddie pool on the deck so they could splash in the water. They loved being able to kick their feet and splash around in the pool with some toys.

We made hamburgers, hot dogs and potato salad for dinner and just relaxed for the rest of the day.

Vacation - day 5

The babies got up early and had their breakfast before anyone else was up. They played for awhile in their bouncer and then my Mom and I took them for a bike ride while Jeremy went out fishing.
In the afternoon we went down to check out the pool. Matthew and Claire took a nap in their cabana and my Mom and I tried to get some sun. Jeremy came down after he came in from fishing to see what we were up to. He and Matthew took a quick dip in the pool (the water was a little too cold for me!).
After dinner, Ian, Amanda and Jeremy went fishing, while I put the babies to bed. My Mom, Dad and Andrew watched the Red Wings game. I walked out to the beach to take a few quick photos before the babies decided to get up again. Ian caught a good size striped bass.

Vacation - day 4

Tuesday we decided to take the babies to the beach since it was a really nice, warm day. After putting a ton of sunscreen on and packing up hats, towels, and their beach cabana we headed out. (We took a few snapshots on the porch in their swimsuits and sunglasses first.)
When we got down to the beach and all set up Claire got super tired so she took a nap in the cabana. Matthew played in the sand for a few minutes, tested out the water and checked out Jeremy’s fishing pole before joining Claire in the cabana for a nap of his own.

Meanwhile, Andrew and Jeremy were fishing from the shore. Andrew actually caught a stingray.

Everyone on the beach stopped to look at what he had caught and were asking him questions about it. He and Jeremy reeled it in and then let it go back in the ocean. Matthew and Claire woke up a while later and were just delighted to play in all the sand. Matthew tried to eat some, so we really had to keep an eye on him. Claire really enjoyed kicking her feet in it.

After everyone got cleaned up my Dad made pork chops for dinner. After dinner, Jeremy and Andrew tried fishing again and my Mom and I took the babies for a bike ride. I rented bikes and a trailer for the week so we could ride around the neighborhood and up to the shops that were nearby.

Ian, Jason and Amanda got here late Tuesday night, they drove straight through so they were probably pretty tired by the time they got to the house.

Vacation - day 3 (Memorial Day)

Today is Memorial Day. The Twins did pretty well their first night here, they got up a few times, but they don’t seem too upset to be in a new place. We brought their mobiles from home to attach to the pack and plays so they would at least have something comforting. We walked down to the beach to check out the big waves in the morning. The water was a little warmer than the night before but still pretty cold. We ate a quick breakfast, during breakfast we could see dolphins swimming in the ocean from the porch. They were a ways out but you could see them swimming back and forth. After breakfast, we all piled in to the van and headed out. Jeremy and Andrew wanted to rent fishing poles so they could fish from the beach, so our first stop was Corolla Bait and Tackle. They were each able to rent a pole, buy some bait and get some advice on when and where to fish (which they later found out no one actually has much of an idea what the best time to fish is). We headed to the grocery store, again, to get something to make for lunches and dinners the rest of the week. When we got back, the babies took a nap and Jeremy and Andrew headed out to go fishing. Jeremy caught a small fish that was really slippery, here’s a photo of it that Andrew took with his phone:

We made chicken for dinner and after dinner Jeremy and Andrew headed out to try fishing, again. After the babies went to bed, I ran back down to the beach for a few minutes to see if they had caught anything. Andrew caught a small fish that he threw back in.
